I see the designer has now confirmed that the Sydney Olympics gold medals have been designed with an image of the Coliseum in Rome, rather than the Parthenon in Athens.

Seems the critics have missed noticing the figure depicted on the left of the medals is a clad female. Since historically the Athens games were competed by nude males only, it seems the designer somewhat missed the target.
