Cathay Pacific Airways is putting some swing in their holiday packages with a host of golfing specials to a selection of the best courses in Asia. A spokesman for the airline said the golf packages were developed for high-end consumers seeking a 'one-stop' service that takes care of all the details - even course bookings - for an affordable price. The packages, which begin at $4,000 (based on twin bookings), include economy class airfare, accommodation, private car transfer, breakfast, course fees and insurance. 'This year the golfing holiday package is one of our core products,' Cathay Pacific product officer Carina Leung said. 'This is the first time we have had this type of promotional programme.' The packages range from three to five days, with an emphasis on luxury five-star hotel accommodation in sun-destinations throughout Southeast Asia. Malaysia, Indonesia, and Thailand figure prominently in the promotional literature, but special packages are also offered to more off- beat golf destinations in Australia and New Zealand. Among these packages is the five-day, four- night trip to Formosa Auckland Country Club, where the 7,254- yard course is regarded as the best in the country. Round trip economy class tour price includes unlimited rounds of golf and caddy fees. For travelling couples who do not share the same passion for the game, Cathay offers joint golfing and spa destination packages for Thailand and Indonesia. Ms Leung said the product offerings were developed following an increasing number of inquiries from travellers seeking activity- oriented packages directly from the airline. 'Most of our clients have visited these countries before,' Ms Leung said. 'We are trying to further these destinations on a new theme.' She admitted there might be cheaper golf packages on offer through private tour operators, but cautioned that many of these tours had hidden costs in the form of airport transfer charges and other incidental costs. Each holiday package includes 'foul weather' coverage, allowing travellers to recoup part of their holiday package costs in the event of a wayward typhoon or monsoon showers. All package prices are based on twin occupancy, with surcharges for solo bookings. For bookings made until the end of the year, Asia Miles members will receive a bonus 2,000 air miles, in addition to their regular travel points.
