1961: American Noble Prize-winning physicist, Dr Donald Glaser, 35, arrived in Hong Kong to meet his scientific counterparts and inspect local factories.

1963: Hong Kong's estimated population at the end of June was 3,592,000, according to the Government Gazette.

1964: Forty four teenagers were arrested at a Kowloon school for holding an 'unlawful public dance'. Acting on a tip, plain clothes detectives surrounded the Fu Lan school and then took the teenagers back to police headquarters for questioning.

1967: A man was shot dead by police in the Tung Tau resettlement area Kowloon City, after two police cars were attacked with bombs. Police had earlier fired two tear gas shells to disperse a crowd estimated at 600 to 800 people.
