Telecommunications and electronics equipment maker IDT International had up to 20 per cent growth in sales of most products since March, according to chairman Raymond Chan Wai-man. At the company's annual meeting yesterday, Mr Chan said strong market demand resulted in the growth, and the company would focus on developing high-technology products to increase competitiveness. This year up to 4 per cent of IDT's HK$2.63 billion turnover will be used in research and development. IDT is also planning to create up to three joint ventures with foreign electronic technology experts, focusing on the development of hi-tech semi-conductor components. The projects, which would start this year, would cost 'dozens of millions of dollars' each, he said. 'It is of vital importance to develop more advanced technology for our production, in order to compete with our competitors in other countries,' Mr Chan said.
