School building design has turned a new page with the Y2K school design, according to Director of Education Matthew Cheung Kin-chung. Speaking at a briefing session on schools of the new millennium, Mr Cheung emphasised the Government's commitment to promoting quality education. He said: 'As a professional partner of schools and teachers, one of our targets in providing quality education is to provide them with a quality learning environment. 'The Y2K school design will offer the space to suit the needs of students and will enhance the effectiveness of teaching and learning. Mr Cheung said the new school building design had been planned with the proposed education reforms in mind. The idea of 'through-road' education was among the many considerations behind the design of composite schools and school villages, according to Mr Cheung. Director of Architectural Services Pau Shiu-hung said that to tie in with educational development, his department had done its best to upgrade the design of schools and boost school facilities.
