Ask Mr Brain . . . all will be explained
Which are the most popular books of all time?
The most popular book of all time is the Bible, having sold six billion or more copies. Actually no one can be sure of the exact number, because the earliest books of the Bible were written thousands of years ago and we have no figures for how many copies were made before the printing press was invented. The Bible also wins the prize for being translated into the most languages.
In second place is Quotations From The Works Of Mao Zedong, formerly known as The Red Book, and are quotations written by Mao himself. During the Communist Revolution in China, everyone was expected to own at least one copy of this book and recite passages from it daily. This book formed the basis for many Chinese Communist movements and even now, it is the foundation of today's Communist society in China. It has sold 800 million copies.
In third place, we have the American Spelling Book, written in 1803 by Noah Webster (who later wrote Webster's Dictionary ). This book teaches people to spell and has sold 100 million copies.
In fourth place, we have The Guinness Book of Records, which has sold 81 million copies since it started being published. This book is updated every year, and contains many interesting records in many different categories, including the oldest humans, tallest humans, human with the longest fingernail and world's biggest piece of sushi ever made.
It is a book full of interesting facts and is definitely worth browsing through. (Most libraries should have a copy).
