Calls to a student hotline last month revealed that Form Five students were confused about their study options.
Hok Yau Club provided a free telephone counselling service from August 4 to 14 to cover the release of the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination results on August 9.
Over the 10-day period, Form Five graduates had to find Form Six places at other schools if they could not get a place at their own school.
This year, the club received 16,115 calls in total, a 10 per cent increase over last year.
Of the calls, 2,326 were inquiries about the government scheme Project Springboard, introduced this year.
Vincent Chui Yat-hung, director of the club's Students Guidance Centre, said many students thought the
Project Springboard certificate was no different from formal studies which could lead to university degree courses.
