Trudge, trudge to work. Grind, grind, trudge, trudge home again. Is the daily routine getting you down? Is going to work not as much fun as it used to be?
What you need is an incentive to go to work. And what employers need to do is provide an incentive to keep you at your desk.
Stock options are no longer enough. Technology companies losing techno-spods by the truckload are turning to all sorts of high-fangled human resource models to try to keep them.
There is even talk of something called 'motivation'. A ball and chain is the only motivation Lai See would use if we found ourselves a job as a ruthless slave-master general at some IT firm.
That's not all. Some companies are using bribes such as trestle tables piled with grub to make sure staff don't leave the office. There is even talk of gymnasiums!
Lai See didn't think this sounded right. What's become of the world. We're sure Hong Kong companies wouldn't have to stoop to this kind of namby-pambying.
We bet senior managers are standing over staff with a whip, beating those incremental bottom-line increases out of them. And staff are thanking them for being so brutal.
