Winning the Jardine Scholarship Award was a dream come true for three Hong Kong students. They will be studying at the renowned Cambridge University in Britain.
Mary Koo Tin-yee, 19, Edmund Ng Yat-man, 18, and Timothy Lee Teck-choon, 17, beat some 100 outstanding students to win the scholarship.
Tin-yee, who went to secondary school in Hong Kong, Australia and Britain, said she enjoyed the education environment of Britain the most.
The St Stephen's Girls' College student scored nine As in the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE) two years ago and decided to study at Benenden School in Britain.
Tin-yee developed an interest in debating during her secondary years and was captain of her school's English debating team. The experience inspired her to become a lawyer.
Tin-yee said it was important to strike a balance between study and extra-curricular activities. She excels academically and plays the cello with an orchestra, swims and takes part in community services.
