The Hong Kong Progressive Alliance suffered a setback from the failure of Fung Chi-kin to win the financial services functional constituency.

Mr Fung, managing director of Bank of China Investment, lost to Henry Wu King-cheong by 177 votes to 133. 'I'm disappointed,' said party chairman Ambrose Lau Hon-chuen, who was returned in the Election Committee.

Two members, Choy So-yuk and Tang Siu-tong, won geographical constituency seats under the banner of the Democratic Alliance for the Betterment of Hong Kong.

Mr Fung said he would continue to fight for brokers by assisting party members in Legco and advising on proposed financial legislation.

'I respect the choice of the brokers, but this will not mean an end to my services to the broking industry,' he said.

Mr Fung refused to speculate on the reasons for his defeat. He would not say whether he would run in the next election.
