Patrick Sun satisfies thirst for excitement by assuming key banking role
From the moment he got his professional qualification, Patrick Sun Ting-wah was a man in a hurry to leave it behind him, convinced he could embark on a grander adventure than public accounting had to offer.
He was right.
When the dust finally settled around the takeover by Chase Manhattan Corp of investment banker Robert Fleming, the former Jardines man emerged with the key role of senior country officer of the merged entity's Hong Kong operations.
In what he called 'heritage Jardine Fleming', Mr Sun was a group executive director, co-head of Jardine Fleming's corporate finance and capital markets business, and head of that business for the Greater China region.
Now, as Chase senior country officer in Hong Kong, he has general responsibilities for operations across all lines of the merged business in the SAR, and is also responsible for managing client relationships in Hong Kong and the mainland.
That challenging role comes on top of a slew of public duties which include his position as a member of the Council of the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong, the vice-chairman of its listing committee, and a member of the Securities and Futures Commission's Hong Kong Takeovers Panel.
In the circumstances it should come as little surprise to hear that Mr Sun's children are generally asleep when he gets home, and that he has little time for leisure - an occasional game of golf providing a rare weekend interruption to a workaday week that continues late into the night at home.
