New technology and rave culture have long gone hand-in-hand. Both industries have cast their net over the globe at lightning speed over the past decade. DJ sets are beamed across continents and UK superclubs like the Ministry Of Sound use cyberspace to promote their brands worldwide. Yet, until relatively recently, there was little interaction between clubs and the Web in Hong Kong. That is changing now, with a rash of new promoters leaping on the bandwagon and the advanced multi-media capabilities of the Net.
'We found that there was not enough information for people in Hong Kong,' Willsher says. 'Our aim is to educate Hong Kong people about the dance music scene that plays a large part in young people's lives around the world.'
Gwylo Records runs a guide to clubbing action in Hong Kong which is updated daily, a photo-gallery which this month posted pictures of John Digweed on the site within hours of his performance, files on DJs and venues, plus links to other sites. Pretty impressive. 'We have mainly been using the information from the UK where the club scene is very well established,' says Willsher, who's intent on boosting local input.
'It's been very successful and provides lots of information clubbers can make use of,' Pink's managing director Dale Rennie says.
