Hong Kong True Light College and the YMCA organised an eight-day trip to Beijing, Jilin and Changbai Shan during the summer holidays. Twenty senior form students, two teachers, a social worker, six Beijing students and a Beijing YMCA staff went on the trip.
On arrival at Beijing airport, we immediately took a train to Jilin.
We had to struggle to board the train and the compartments were extremely small and narrow. We had to sleep on 'hard beds'. Many people, especially men, constantly walked along the corridor looking at us.
After 16 hours, we arrived in Jilin.
We visited two primary schools over the next two days. We had prepared many activities for the pupils. Although our Putonghua was not good, they could still understand what we wanted to say.
They were very co-operative and took part in all activities enthusiastically. When we had to leave, they gave us a lot of gifts and even asked us to sign autographs for them. We felt like celebrities.
