Cocaine is still very much a drug most commonly taken at parties for those wanting to get 'high'.

Coke, as it is usually called, is made from the coca plant which is grown in South America. The country mostly associated with cocaine production is Colombia where drug cartels have enormous influence and power because cocaine is in high demand, especially in the United States.

One Colombian drug boss who was arrested by the US authorities and is now sitting in a jail is Ivan De La Vega. He was arrested in Venezuela last month after a two-year investigation by drug enforcement agencies in a probe code-named 'Operation Journey'.

Wearing very casual clothes he did not look like a drug lord at the time of his arrest but he is believed to be the head of a large drug operation that covered the US and Europe. Drugs were hidden on cargo ships which were supposed to be carrying legitimate goods and speed boats would secretly meet them to take the drugs on to land.

De La Vega's arrest was due to the US and President Bill Clinton's greater involvement in breaking the drug trade by stopping cocaine production and distribution.
