Following the scandal involving former legislator Gary Cheng Kai-nam, tycoon Li Ka-shing has threatened to reduce investments in Hong Kong.
The Chinese newspaper Apple Daily reported last month that Mr Cheng had offered consultancy services to companies controlled by the tycoon without telling the former legislature.
The newspaper printed what appeared to be a document faxed to Mr Li's company, Cheung Kong Holdings.
The fax to Cheung Kong chief corporate affairs officer Wendy Tong Barnes, from Mr Cheng, advised the company on a question the legislator would ask in Legco.
Mr Li has accused politicians and the media of having ulterior motives behind exposing the controversy around Mr Cheng's public relations consultancy company and his failure to declare his interests to Legco.
Mr Li was questioned about Cheung Kong's commissioning of consultancy services linked to Mr Cheng.
