Outgoing Housing Authority head Rosanna Wong Yick-ming said yesterday she would 'give up anything' to see reforms within the authority go ahead.
Speaking before she steps down to morrow, Ms Wong said: 'My resignation is no big deal and reforms are more important than anything else. What I want to see most is an improvement in our housing quality and a smooth reform progress.'
Ms Wong resigned in June after several building scandals in the Housing Authority, including short-piling in a Home Ownership Scheme flat project in Yuen Chau Kok, Sha Tin.
She said quality of construction was difficult to control because it involved 'too many stake-holders and professions'.
Her successor has been confirmed and will be named soon.
She appealed to the Government not to reduce its commitment to public housing and that priority should be given to those on the waiting list - which has dropped from 150,000 in 1993 to 100,000.
