In Hong Kong

1955: Hong Kong boxers finished third in the Southeast Asian Boxing Championship in Singapore. The team won three gold medals including one for trainer J Tye, who stepped in for a sick boxer.

1960: Leung Kan, 41, was fined $600 and sentenced to two months in jail for possession of dutiable wine without a licence. Revenue officers found the man returning from Macau with four bottles in his luggage and another two tied around his waist.

1961: Leung Tak-chi, 28, an unlicensed hawker, was sentenced to a month in jail after pleading guilty to stealing a pair of trousers from his mother. Upon discovering the clothing missing, the woman found her son with the trousers at the entrance of a pawnshop.

1969: The Hong Kong Stock Exchange finished the week with a turnover of $100.75 million, the first time it had hit $100 million.
