In Hong Kong

1960: Siu Chun-shing pleaded guilty in a Kowloon court to falsely pretending to be a police officer. The court heard the man called himself a chief inspector because his girlfriend liked people who had revolvers.

1967: An explosion in a Canton Stadium, at a rally denouncing the Hong Kong-British authorities and pledging support for the local communists, killed several people and injured hundreds.

1969: The Round Up Discotheque changed its name to Round Up Disco Nightclub to project a better image. Local residents tended to believe the Wan Chai night spot was only suitable for sailors.

Around the world

1536: William Tyndale, English religious reformer and Bible translator, was burned at the stake as a heretic at Vilvarde, near Brussels, on the orders of King Henry VIII.
