Sad ending

I WAS interested to read the letter from Alec Twitchett regarding payment for excess baggage at Kai Tak Airport (South China Morning Post, June 3).

On the morning of May 15 two of my friends had a similar experience at the Emirates desk, also en route to London.

Although their suitcases did not seem to be excessively heavy they were informed that they must pay HK$5,000 for excess baggage. This was reduced to $3,000 after they protested. They had no choice but to pay up, but left Hongkong with the end of their holiday somewhat marred.

I also would like to know what is going on at Kai Tak and hope our letters will elicit some response.
