One of the world's largest communications equipment manufacturers, 3Com, is staging a four-day, worldwide opinion poll.
The company plans to use the Internet to ask millions of people around the world for their views on intimate topics, such as their sex lives and religious beliefs.
'This is by far the most ambitious event 3Com has attempted,' said its Hong Kong manager for carrier network business Steve Lam.
The Planet Project survey will be conducted from November 15 to November 18.
It is made up of 20 multiple-choice questions in nine categories - religion, beliefs and fears, health and well-being, sleep and dreams, self-image, marriage dating and sex, parenting and education, and law and order.
3Com also is sending 2,500 volunteers and employees, equipped with laptops, handheld computing devices and portable transmitters, to conduct the survey with people who do not normally have access to the Internet. No identifying data will be collected during the project.
