E-payments software provider QSI Payments is in talks with two electronic transaction operators in Hong Kong to introduce a direct-debit card for online purchases.
Sales manager (North Asia) Roger Lam said the company was holding preliminary talks with Jetco and EPS Co over the introduction of the card in Hong Kong.
According to Mr Lam, QSI is also seeking the partnership of similar operators in Taiwan, Singapore and the Philippines.
Jetco, an automated teller network consisting of 51 member banks, and EPS Co, which operates the Easy Pay System, were unavailable for comment yesterday.
The card, which is a small compact disc in the shape of a credit card, will enable customers to make secure debit transactions on the Internet without purchasing additional hardware.
The debit card was developed by NYCE - the largest automated teller-network on the East Coast of the United States - and jointly promoted in the US with QSI.
