1965: The Fabulous Echoes pop group came back short of cash after a year-long tour of the US. The group made two appearances on The Ed Sullivan Show.
1972: Australian professional golfer Bruce Crampton and his family arrived for a holiday. Three Teddy Boys, one armed with an automatic pistol, robbed a Shamshuipo goldsmith shop of $19,000 injewellery.
1983: Nineteen people were injured when a China Motor Bus double-decker plunged down a five-metre slope on Shek O Road to avoid a head-on collision with a dump truck.
1986: Queen Elizabeth arrived in Beijing to start a six-day tour, the first by a reigning British monarch. The state visit was arranged after the sensitive two-year talks on Hong Kong ended in 1984.
1990: Tennis star Michael Chang arrived at Kai Tak in preparation for the Marlboro Championships. China called the Hong Kong Government's decision to fund the $6 billion Lantau fixed crossing as unilateral and inappropriate.
