An estate agent gave a tearful account yesterday of being humiliated by friends after they heard she had been sexually attacked.
The woman, 44, whose name cannot be disclosed for legal reasons, told a jury she initially feared going to the police because she did not want to lose face after being assaulted, robbed and almost killed when she took a man to view a flat.
Barrister Robert Forrest, for the accused, asked her: 'If your version [of what happened] is true, nobody in this world would blame you. How come you would lose face for that?'
Breaking down in tears, the alleged victim told the Court of First Instance: 'In Hong Kong, victims are so miserable because they are exposed to much pressure, even among friends . . . People gossip about me. I am asked to use spare chopsticks when dining with my best friends, who are worried that I have Aids after the incident.'
Shahzad Mohammad, 23, has pleaded not guilty to attempted murder, indecent assault and robbery. The offences allegedly took place in a Yuen Long flat on October 8 last year.
Mr Forrest said the woman had fabricated allegations against the construction site worker, who felt cheated after being led by the woman to a flat other than the one he was interested in.
