Lovers of lounge will be pleased to hear that an alternative to the current crop of clubs around town will be opening on October 20. Alibi (73 Wyndham Street, Central. Tel: 2167 8989) bar and brasserie covers two floors, and will open from noon until 2am, with the ground floor catering for the SAR's lounge lizards in the evenings, while operating as a cafe for the lunchtime business-type crowds. The brasserie also opens from noon until 2am and food will be served right through until closing time. A few well-known faces in the local restaurant and bar scene are behind the project - Nichole Garnaut, Jeanette Skelton and Stacey Hildebrant, and they are promising 'Chilled sounds for chilled people' in the lounge bar. An ideal night-time tonic for the hustle and bustle of life in Hong Kong. They've opted for a 'modern and decadent' decor and the place has been designed by Daryll W Groveas, of Pure Creative Asia Ltd, who boasts shops for Christian Dior and Cartier among his clients and has made his first foray into the world of restaurants and bars. And Alibi's staff, too, will be going for a touch of class - uniforms are coming via The House of Celine's top designer in Paris. First-up DJ for the opening will be Jullian March - direct from New York, one of the lounge music capitals of the world. Food comes via the skills of executive chef Axel Grousset and head chef Timothy Broderick - both of whom have worked at restaurants boasting three Michelin stars - and the PR people say the menu will be unpretentious and French-influenced.
