I refer to the story headlined, 'Vehicle safety practices queried' (South China Morning Post, October 5), in which it was reported that an Agriculture and Fisheries official died in a crash which 'was blamed on two rear tyres' of the government vehicle in which he was a passenger.
I would like the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department to explain the strange logic by which government vehicles are exempt from maintenance laws. Do these vehicles not carry passengers and use the same roads as others?
