THERE is no urgent need to legalise soccer gambling, the official in charge of betting policy says. Secretary for Home Affairs Lam Woon-kwong said yesterday that a review of soccer gambling was under way and results were expected early next year. He said public opinion remained divided about whether to legalise soccer betting, so there was no urgent need to do so. His prime concern was tackling illegal bookmaking. 'If most money flows into illegal bookmaking, betting tax revenue would be reduced, and in turn affect our social services,' he said.
