Monkey on road causes pile-up

Updated at 6.21pm: A jay-walking monkey was hit when it caused a three-vehicle pile-up in Yuen Long on Monday morning.

At 11.23am, a woman driving along the Sheung Shui-bound lane of the Yuen Long Highway near Hung Shui Kiu slammed on her brakes when a monkey suddenly darted in front of her car. The car came to a sudden halt though it did strike the animal.

''However the minibus and truck behind the 36-year-old woman's car were unable to react in time, resulting in a three-vehicle pile-up,'' a police spokeswoman said.

The monkey ran off into a hill after the accident while the minibus driver was treated for neck injuries at Tuen Mun Hospital.
