A maid was allegedly caned by her employer with a rattan stick yesterday when she failed to clean pen marks left on a wall by the two-year-old son of her boss. The maid, 25, from Indonesia, phoned police saying she had been beaten by her female employer in a flat in Sceneway Garden, Lam Tin, at about 4pm. A police spokeswoman said the maid complained she had been hit on her right arm, although no apparent wound was found on her. She was taken to the United Christian Hospital for an examination. She claimed she was assaulted when she told her boss she had tried several times and had been unable to remove the marks left by the coloured pens. She also told officers that it was not the first time she had been assaulted by her 36-year-old employer. The maid, who has been working in Hong Kong for about two years, has worked for the family - a couple and their only son - for about eight months. Last night her employer was being questioned by officers at Kwun Tong police station. The maid, who left the hospital after a check-up, also went to the police station to help with the inquiries.
