1966: British entertainer Bruce Forsyth opened his five-week run at the Button Supper Club at the Mandarin.

1967: A man was shot and wounded by police after a group of 10 people attacked two detectives outside the Commercial Press, a Communist bookstore. Fourteen people were arrested after the building was cordoned off.

1971: Princess Anne travelled through the hills of the New Territories on horseback for a look across the Shumchun River that divided the colony from China. She later attended a farewell dinner at City Hall attended by 500 guests. A three-month-old girl died in Mongkok after being attacked by rats during the night.

1973: The Central Registry of Drug Addicts estimated there were 80,000 to 100,000 addicts in Hong Kong. Heroin-smoking men, about half of them bachelors, comprised the largest group of addicts.

1976: Actors Robert Mitchum and Richard Egan spoke to the Post while in town to film a movie for producer Raymond Chow about the Hong Kong-Amsterdam drug connection. 'It's about 146 minutes running time with four minutes of bad dialogue and three plugs for the Hilton Hotel,' said Mitchum.
