Updated at 11.33am: Flights to and from the SAR and the cities of Taipei and Kaohsiung will be suspended at least until noon as a result of both the Singapore Airlines crash in Taipei and and Typhoon Xangsane, the Hong Kong Airport Authority said on Wednesday.

''Some passengers heading for Taiwan were stranded at the airport but we are not sure when the flights can be resumed,'' Chris Donnolley, a spokesman of the Authority said.
Mr Donnolley suggested passengers call the airlines, and check the Web site of the Authority (www.hkairport.com) before going to the airport.
Passengers can call Cathay Pacific at 27478888 for information in Cantonese or 27478999 in English.
