Connie Ho Ka-lai, one of the best-known fencers in Hong Kong, took up the sport in 1986. She said the sport had been gaining in popularity over the last few years.
'In the past, fencing was only known to a handful of peo ple in Hong Kong, let alone stu dents. But these days I'm happy to see that more and more teen agers are getting involved in the sport.
'There are a lot of talented young players. I think it's time we started training them if we are to bid for the 2006 Asian Games. As far as training goes, we are far behind the main land, Japan, South Korea and even Kazakhstan,' Ho said.
