A doctor has been struck off the medical register for a month for displaying the name of another doctor who did not practise at his clinic, and for listing the wrong qualifications on a sign.
Between May and July 1998, Dr Pak York-ming displayed the name of Dr Tommy Chung Wing-hong at his clinic at Shek Pai Wan Road, Aberdeen, saying it was jointly run. He also displayed three diploma certificates in child health that neither doctor held.
Dr Chung, who has been practising in Britain for years, claimed he did not consent to the notices being displayed, had no intention of practising at the clinic, and had not acquired the diplomas in child health.
In his testimony, Dr Pak said he put Dr Chung's name up because of a conversation they had some years ago. They met in 1994 in Wales while Dr Pak was taking a course in dermatology.
Dr Chung, who then worked at a hospital, expressed his interest in returning to the SAR. 'He asked about salaries in Hong Kong and he felt Hong Kong was much better,' Dr Pak said. 'He said if I opened a clinic, I should tell him. Based on that conversation, I believed he would come and join as a partner.'
However, Dr Pak admitted Dr Chung did not reply to an invitation to join the practice until September 1998, four months after he opened his clinic.
