An environmental protection programme has been launched for teachers and students to experience the beauty of nature and Hong Kong's natural resources.

The training programme, 'Green Footprints', is jointly organised by Friends of the Earth (FoE), the Hong Kong Hikers' Association, the Hong Kong Professional Teachers' Union and Cathay Pacific Airways.

The first phase of Green Footprints' training is on how to become an 'eco-guide'.

The project attracted over 200 in-service and trainee teachers, out of which 55 were selected.

A number of indoor and outdoor activities will be conducted.

Participants will also take part in four planned walks along several trails, including the one from Pak Tam Au to Wong Pier and the Pokfulam Reservoir nature trail.

In the second phase, participants will have to put their acquired skills to work by organising at least two 'eco-walks' for students and children from community centres.
