The School Self-Evaluation and School-Based Performance Indicators Project is organised by the Chinese University of Hong Kong's Faculty of Education.

The project has received a grant of over $2 million from the Quality Education Fund.

It trains principals and teachers in new approaches to school management. It aims to help schools develop their own models of management; evaluation frameworks for daily practices; and performance indicators in two years' time.

It is hoped the project will improve the confidence and performance of teachers and school administrators and make schools more accountable to parents and the community.

Project leader Professor Pang Sun-keung said that according to the Education Department's Quality Assurance Inspectorate, only a handful of schools constantly assess their effectiveness in day-to-day management.
