The 47th Macau Grand Prix takes place this weekend. Practice and qualifying sessions began yesterday and will continue today.

This year's Grand Prix is the first to be held in the former Portuguese enclave since it was returned to Chinese administration late last year.

There will be two 12-lap legs with a 10-minute break between them. But technical regulations will be for FIA Super Production cars and not Super Touring cars as in the past.

'The Super Production class has taken off on a world- wide basis, with highly successful and very competitive national and regional championships run in Europe, Australia and Asia,' organisers said.

The first race was held in 1954. It now attracts some of the leading riders and drivers from around the world.
