The new economy is presenting human resource management professionals with new challenges, according to accounting and consulting group Arthur Andersen.
Allen Yeung, director of Arthur Andersen's human capital practice, said advances in technology had revolutionised business models and called for new ways to manage resources.
'Many of the companies we support have transformed their traditional businesses using Web-based technology. From a human resources perspective, technology has also become a driving force for change,' he said.
While the Internet provided the backbone for business-to-business and business-to-customer operations, it had led to a new communications channel between employers and employees, said Mr Yeung.
'This is what we call business-to-employee and what it means is we have to treat our employees like customers.'
Mr Yeung said an online human resources solution would improve efficiency and enhance communication.
