Commercial Press (HK) Cyberbooks (CPC), a joint venture between Sunevision Holdings and Commercial Press, is seeking a licence in China to tap the lucrative Internet bookstore market.
CPC chief executive Vivien Pau Wai-yee said the company needed government approval before it could set up its Web site across the border.
But she believed the company's long-established reputation would facilitate its licence application.
Business, through its CP1897.com, had been in full swing since June, she said, and sales volume had shown at least a 10-fold increase over six months as a result of promotions in Hong Kong and overseas.
Business had been boosted by increasing orders from tertiary institutions for their students' books.
And the collapse of Hong Kong's biggest Internet book seller, Chinese Books Cyberstore, had seen customers switch to CPC, Ms Pau said.
