Ehealthcareasia.com, a platform operator for online clinic transactions, is to acquire Australia-based fellow operator MedWeb for HK$89 million.
The mainboard-listed company, a subsidiary of health-care management firm Quality Healthcare Asia, claims the deal will give it a 25 per cent share of the Australian market.
Ehealthcareasia.com director Philip Kirkwood said MedWeb's subsidiary, RxHealthcare, was Australia's largest supplier of medical practice software.
He said about 5,600 doctors were using RxHealthcare's software to conduct online transactions with insurance companies, medical suppliers and drug companies.
Australia had about 28,000 practising doctors, of which some 22,000 were starting to put their transactions online.
Mr Kirkwood would not disclose RxHealthcare's revenues since its inception slightly more than a year ago, but said it had been loss-making.
