A restaurant being set up as a result of a challenge from one legislator to another will open near Lan Kwai Fong in May, it was revealed yesterday.
The restaurant, possibly to be called the Yan Yan Restaurant which will be run on unionist principles, will serve simple cafe food such as noodles, sandwiches, tea and egg tarts.
The $7 million project came about after a challenge by Legco's catering representative, Tommy Cheung Yu-yan, to unionist Lee Cheuk-yan to put his unionist principles into practice.
The two, witnessed by radio host Albert Cheng King-hon, who first suggested the idea, finalised details of the project yesterday.
Mr Lee, Confederation of Trade Unions general secretary, decided to cut the budget to $7 million from $10 million and was given one year to run the 5,000-square-foot restaurant.
Mr Cheung, who will invest $10,000 in the project, said he would invite 700 more people to take part, with investors pumping in $10,000 each.
