Pacific Century CyberWorks will continue to have a say in MobileOne, a Singapore-based mobile-telephone operator, according to a company executive. Great Eastern, a holding company in which Cable & Wireless (C&W) has a 51 per cent stake and CyberWorks a 49 per cent stake, owns a controlling 30 per cent of MobileOne. However, C&W, which owns 14.2 per cent of CyberWorks, has indicated it may divest some of the company's holding in MobileOne, spurring concern among analysts that the fate of Great Eastern's MobileOne stake was being determined by C&W. Analysts said this could pose a problem for CyberWorks, which has indicated that its Great Eastern stake could be acquired by its joint venture mobile-telephome operation with Telstra of Australia. However, CyberWorks president Hubert Ng Ching-wah yesterday said majority control of Great Eastern was 'not an issue'. 'Cable & Wireless will consider our intentions in MobileOne, and after all, we want to achieve a win-win situation' for all parties, Mr Ng said.
