E-commerce portal operator iCare.com is lining up online broker TD Waterhouse and financial content provider ET Net to launch the first Internet-on-television stock trading service in Hong Kong.
Under the service, iCare's subscribers would be able to trade stocks at TD Waterhouse's Web site and access real-time stock quotation and financial news from ET Net via their TV sets, chief executive Sunny Lee Wai-kwong said.
He said users would be charged a HK$85 monthly fee for installing a set-top box - a vehicle to connect TV sets to the Internet - and no other additional cost would be incurred.
'What's special today is we are able to bring this real-time online stock trading system to TV space,' Mr Lee said.
'That means it can benefit those households who do not know how to use personal computers.'
ICare, a unit of Growth Enterprises Market-listed Henderson Cyber, had about 65,000 users on its e-shopping sites. Mr Lee declined to disclose the volume of online transactions since the launch of its service in August, but expected stock trading would bring more users.
