French surprised

The famous scene of President Jiang Zemin publicly admonishing Hong Kong reporters for being too simple and sometimes naive, shown throughout the world, must have been regarding by people in Hong Kong and the rest of China, as both dramatic and embarrassing.

In France, one of the most famous television channels Canal + showed the angry face and pointing finger of Mr Jiang.

The French were surprised that Mr Jiang handled the matter in this way. It was not exactly the talk of the town here in Paris, but people have joked about it at dinner tables.

Some French people have said to me that Hong Kong people are too simple and naive.
