Woman hit by limo sues hotel for $10m
The Ritz-Carlton Hotel is being sued for more than $10 million by a pedestrian who was left a paraplegic after being knocked down by a limousine driven by one of its parking staff.
Rebecca Chan Yuet-lui is seeking damages from the hotel and parking valet Lo Sin-tak, whom the hotel says was responsible for the incident on March 9, 1998.
Ms Chan says she was knocked down by a limousine driven by Mr Lo as she walked along a pavement in Queensway outside the police headquarters.
The court heard she had been left a paraplegic after the accident.
Ms Chan's lawyer, Ashok Sakhrani, said that as Mr Lo had pleaded guilty to reckless driving in separate criminal proceedings, there could be no dispute he was negligent.
He said the main issue was whether Mr Lo was driving as a servant or agent of the Ritz-Carlton.
