The husband of 'Hello Kitty case' victim Fan Man-yee said yesterday her killers deserved to spend the rest of their days behind bars.
After the sentencing Ng Chi-yuen, Fan's common-law husband, said he was still confused and distressed by what had happened.
'I don't know whether I am happy or unhappy,' he said. 'But at least now I can put my mind at ease. For the crime they committed, they deserve to be sentenced to serve the rest of their lives in jail.'
Fan had a son with Mr Ng. The boy was one-year-old at the time of the killing in April last year.
Mr Ng said he had not yet decided whether to tell his son about the ordeal his mother had suffered. The child is now in the care of the Social Welfare Department.
But ringleader Chan Man-lok's common-law wife, Tsang Ka-pui, 24, said the sentence appeared too severe. She initially thought her husband might receive a shorter jail term.
