Until two months ago, Bonnie Chan, 19, was one of hundreds of habitual Ecstasy users. Now she says she is living a healthy and happy life without the pills.

The turning point came in September when Ms Chan looked in the mirror and saw a ghost.

'I looked so tired and my face was so white. My body felt very weak and I was always sick, running a fever,' she said.

The realisation had come after months of chemical-assisted partying. Ms Chan, a regular disco-goer, popped her first Ecstasy tablet when she was deeply unhappy.

'Popping them made me forget all my unhappiness, at least that was what I thought.'

But the abuse took its toll, weakening her body and harming her looks, to the point where she thought she was losing more than she was gaining.
