German mobile-phone maker Siemens expects its Asian sales to grow 150 per cent in the coming year, according to Martin Kinne, executive vice-president of its Asia Pacific Mobile Devices division.
Mr Kinne said the company had experienced compound growth of more than 90 per cent over the past three years, making Asia Pacific its biggest growth market outside its home market of Germany.
'We now have 15 per cent market share in Asia Pacific,' he said.
'We rose to third place for the first time in September in China - our biggest market.'
Nokia of Finland, Ericsson of Sweden and Motorola of the United States remain the biggest manufacturers of mobile phones globally, but Siemens hopes to challenge the rankings.
'We were nobody three years ago, but I can tell you that had it not been for the shortage of spare parts, we would have been selling more phones than we sold last year,' Mr Kinne said.
