HSBC's online service has signed up 100,000 customers in Hong Kong since its soft-launch in August.

It plans to roll out a multi-media advertising and marketing campaign to grow this new user base.

At a sneak preview yesterday of television advertising, due to air this week, HSBC head of personal e-business, Asia-Pacific, Richard Kimber, said: 'We will be promoting the site for the first time, along with a new range of services.'

Mr Kimber did not disclose the cost of the campaign but said: 'You will be able to tell over the next few weeks that it is significant.'

The campaign will market a range of new services added to the online banking site, including applications for home, personal instalment, and tax loans; subscription and redemption of more than 60 units trust products; application and instant approval for home, accident and travel insurance, and credit card applications.

The bank's online stock-trading service is already being used for one-third of all trading, said Mr Kimber.
