HONGKONG yesterday ran up the flag to mark its support for Beijing's bid to host the 2000 Olympic Games. Executive vice-president of the Beijing 2000 Olympic Games Bid Committee, Zhang Bai-fa, was on hand at Tai Po Sports Ground to see a host of stars and Hongkong personalities pledge their support to the campaign. Actress Veronica Yip (top left) was one of the first to take the plunge, participating in a swimming competition with other local stars. Normally staid politicians also got in on the act, with Andrew Wong Wang-fat (above right) a member of the Legislative Council team that took on the artists, including Eric Tsang, in the soccer competition. The event was organised by Commercial Radio and was also attended by Timothy Fok, the director of the Hongkong Liaison Office of the Beijing Games Bid Committee. Official representation came from Wong Wah-sang, the vice-president of the Amateur Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hongkong.
