Alexander Popov walked on water. Eugene Cernan walked on the moon. Luckily for Paul Lawrie and company, the two don't play golf.
Swimming great Popov and Cernan, the last man to walk on the moon, will make celebrity appearances at the Omega Hong Kong Open.
Popov has been the dominant sprinter in the pool since 1992, and only just failed to become the first man to win an individual event at three successive Olympics when Dutchman Pieter van den Hoogenband beat him in the 100-metres freestyle at the Sydney Games. Popov also surrendered his monopoly in the 50-metre freestyle.
Cernan, the commander of Apollo 17, is famous as the last man to leave his footprints on the moon - in December 1972. Both Popov and Cernan are ambassadors for title sponsor Omega, and have donated items for a special charity auction, including memorabilia from Popov's amazing career and an authentic heat shield from Cernan's Apollo mission.
Omega is donating a 150th anniversary limited edition watch for auction. All proceeds will go to the World Wide Fund for Nature.
