Planners look set to amend their proposals for the redevelopment of Tai O after villagers complained the original plans would damage the character of the village.
One source said the revised Study of Revitalisation of Tai O contained proposals for reducing the length of anti-flood walls and moving a visitors' and commercial centre originally intended for Tai O Creek. However, a proposed folk museum might be moved to Tai O Creek. It would be considered a less contentious intrusion among the stilt-houses, the source said.
'Opposition from the villagers has been taken into consideration and changes are being finalised in the study to avoid affecting the stilt-houses,' another source said.
The visitors' and commercial centre - to be built on stilts - could be moved to the south and merged with an entrance plaza. The handicraft centre could be scrapped, the source said.
Consultation is expected to begin early next year.
